Columbia student could face disciplinary action for bringing gun to school

Schools officials at a Columbia middle school are taking action after a student brought a BB gun to school.

It happened this morning at West Middle School onClinkscales Road.

In a letter sent to parents today, Principal Connie Dewey said several students heard the student talking about the gun in his backpack and reported what they heard to school officials.

She said administrators then investigated the situation and confiscated the BB gun.

Dewey said they are taking the incident seriously andtaking appropriate disciplinary action because it violates school safety policies.

In the letter, Dewey also asked parents to check their students bags everyday to help keep the school safe.
