UPDATE: One man charged in south Columbia shooting

A 21-year-old man was arrested following a shooting at 1610 Steamboat Lane off of Grindstone Friday night.

Columbia Police arrested James Webb in connection to the shooting.

Authorities say a fight between Webb and another man started inside the home on Steamboat Lane. Court documents ABC 17 news obtained claim the two were fighting over rent payments and missing drugs. During the fight, Webb pulled out a gun and during a struggle between the two men the gun was fired.

Both Webb and the victim sustained non-life threatening injuries from the gun shot. The victim was transported from the home to a local hospital. Court documents say he suffered a gun shot wound to the hand.

Police say Webb and two other people left the scene. The suspect vehicle, a red Dodge Avenger, was spotted by an officer at the Phillips 66 gas station off Rock Quarry and East Stadium Blvd.

Neighbors told ABC 17 News the car belonged to people who live at the Steamboat address.

Officers searched the car and the three suspects in the car were taken into custody, but so far only Webb has been arrested. The car is being towed away for evidence. Webb was taken to University Hospital to be treated for his injuries where he was later arrested.

Another gunshot victim showed up at a hospital, but it’s unclear if that is related to this shooting.

On Monday morning, Webb was charged with First Degree Assault and Armed Criminal Action. He also has an outstanding misdemeanor warrant with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. Webb is being held without bond.
