Most wanted fugitive in Camden County custody

A most wanted fugitive is in the Camden County sheriff’s office custody Friday.

Kansas City police arrested Danny D. Slater, 58, Wednesday evening for two outstanding warrants during a traffic stop.

Slater was put on the most wanted list in June 2013 after he fired a deer rifle into a vehicle with people inside. The vehicle was stopped by a roadblock in the Edwards are of Camden County.

Deputies contacted Slater after they located his crashed vehicle. The victims of the shooting incident had described the vehicle to officials.

Slater initially told deputies he was an undercover CIA operative, saying he could not reveal the identity of the shooter.

An investigation and follow-up interviews with Slater revealed he was the shooter. Slater had hidden the rifle used in the incident.

He fled to the Kansas City area in the midst of the investigation and had not been seen June 2013.

Slater is currently being held at the Camden County Adult Detention Facility on two counts of Assault 1st Degree with a bond of $50,000 cash and $150,000 surety.

He will appear before the Camden County Associate Court on October 13th.
