Columbia man charged with violating sex offender status, promoting child porn

A Columbia man was arrested Thursday for promoting child pornography and
violating the terms of his sex offender registration.

Members of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department Cyber Crimes Task Force
started investigating 44-year-old Matthew Stone after they received a tip from the NationalCenter for Missing and Exploited Children.

Investigators learned Stone had uploaded child pornography to Skype in May.

A search warrant was served at Stone’s house on Thursday, where Stone admitted to being involved with the Skype account.

Investigators also determined Stone didn’t register the online identifier required by law under the Sex Offender registration.

Stone was living within 1000 feet of a school or a daycare, and three other registered sex offenderswere living in the same home. Those people were notified by deputies that is a direct violation of their sex offender status that would require them to move.
