Heavy rain, strong storms possible Tuesday

Showers and storms ahead of a cold front will push southeast into northern Missouri overnight, bringing a chance of rain to areas north of I-70 starting after midnight.

As this cold front pushes south, more storms could develop along and just ahead of the front through the afternoon in Mid-Missouri.

There will be an ample amount of instability and enough wind shear that some of these storms could become strong, depending on how much clearing we see after morning showers. All of Mid-Missouri is under a marginal risk for severe storms Tuesday.

Storms that do become severe will pose a damaging wind threat, as well as bring the potential for heavy rain. Between 2″-2.5″ is possible across our entire area by Wednesday morning.

Lingering showers are expected to move out by the lunch hour Wednesday, with gradual clearing through the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Winds will shift to the north, ushering in cooler air for the rest of the week with below average temperatures in the 70s in the afternoons and the 50s in the evenings.
