Brothers, Mauk, Lock shine in Mizzou win over SEMO

Maty Mauk threw for two touchdowns while Kentrell Brothers recorded 16 tackles along with a blocked punt to help Mizzou defeat Southeast Missouri State 34-3.

The got off to a hot start with Maty Mauk finding J’Mon Moore for a 27-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Mauk returned to the left side of the endzone minutes later, targeting Nate Brown for his second touchdown of the game to extend the Mizzou lead to 14-0.

Drew Lock continued to impress. In the second quarter, Lock entered the game for his first collegiate action. He complete four of five passes for 51 yards on his first series which led to a field goal. But his biggest moment came in the fourth quarter. Lock scrammbled away from pressure and launched a touchdown pass for reserve running back Tyler Hunt. The 78-yard grab was Hunt’s first career touchdown catch and Lock’s first career touchdown pass.

Mauk finished the game complete 12 of 22 passes for 181 yard, two touchdowns and one interception. Moore was the team’s leading receiver, catching three passes for 79 yards and one score.

Evan Boehm and Russell Hansbrough did not finish the game. Both were diagnosed with ankle injuries and their timeline for a return is not known.

With Saturday’s win, Missouri (1-0) improves its home opener win streak to 14 games. The Tigers are now 3-0 all-time versus SEMO, outscoring the Redhawks 86-6 in those three games.
