Troopers investigating officer-involved shooting in California, Mo.

ABC 17 News has confirmed the Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating an officer-involved shooting in California, Mo.

There are still several unanswered questions surrounding the shooting as of Friday evening.

When ABC 17 News asked California Police to comment on the shooting, we were directed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Around 1 a.m. Friday, the patrol’s drug and crime control division was contacted by the California police chief about an officer-involved shooting at 608 S. Taylor.

Officers were trying to arrest a man at that address who had active warrants out for his arrest.

The suspect came out with what appeared to be an assault rifle. He was shot and is now in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

He is not under arrest at this time. The encounter was recorded by officers’ dash and body cameras.

The patrol says they are involved because they are often called to similar cases at the request of the local department.

As of Friday at 5:00 p.m., police are not revealing the suspect’s name or what he’s been charged with.
