Smoke from wildfires moving into Mid-Missouri
A thin layer of smoke is moving into Mid-Missouri from wildfires burning in the northwestern states. The upper level winds are coming in from the northwest, carrying the thin smoke plume toward the southeast high up in the atmosphere.
The smoke plume is forecast to spread to the south and east through Wednesday which will give us a hazy look to our late-summer sky and possibly another bright orange sunset.
The smoke particles filter the sunlight, allowing the yellow, orange and red colors to get through, giving us fiery sunrise and sunsets. It also gives our sky a diffused, hazy appearance.
