Jefferson City woman arrested after high-speed chase

A woman is facing charges in Cole and Callaway counties after authorities say she led them on a high-speed chase through three counties on Tuesday morning.

According to a press release from JCPD, the chase started around 1:30 a.m. in Jefferson City when 31-year-old Danna Peters failed to stop for Jefferson City police after they discovered a municipal warrant for her arrest.

Capt. Doug Shoemaker said Peters’ original warrant was for not having vehicle insurance.

“It certainly started off very minor overall and then became something much bigger,” he said.

JCPD officers pursued her to Highway 50, then on Highway 54 to Callaway County.

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Department then joined the chase, which continued through Callaway County, then back to Highway 54 and Route J.

“We terminated once there were those other vehicles involved, because too many police cars in a chase is generally never really much of a good thing unless it’s a very serious, violent, felony type situation,” Shoemaker explained.

When Peters reached that intersection, more deputies from Callaway County as well as the Missouri State Highway Patrol took over and took up the chase.

“You don’t want to have a lot of police cars in a situation where it’s not warranted,” said Corporal Scott White with Highway Patrol. “It was early in the morning so there wasn’t a lot of traffic, so we made sure there were a limited number of officers in this pursuit.”

She then rode through Millersburg on Route F, which turned into Route WW.

Missouri State Highway Patrol officials confirmed that law enforcement used spike strips.

Peters drove off the side of the road on Route WW.

Tuesday afternoon, Peters was charged in Cole County with one count of felony resisting arrest.

According to Callaway County officials, Peters will face charges of felony resisting arrest and several traffic charges.

Peters is in the Cole County Jail with a $150,000 bond. She was currently on probation for a previous resisting arrest charge and burglary offense.
