Hearing on proposed 2016 budget planned for Columbia Council

The Columbia City Council is slated to meet Monday night on multiple items, including a few votes.

The council will hold a public hearing on the proposed $44 million budget for 2016.

The proposal includes room for more than 30 new employees, as well as increases in parking and solid waste rates.

The council is also expected to vote on a bill calling for a special election over an extension to a local parks sales tax.

Parks and Rec has asked the council to put the 6-year extension of the 1/8% tax on the November ballot.

The council will hold first readings on bills for road improvements to Scott Blvd. and a release of easements with CVS pharmacy.
