Increasing gas prices affect Columbia businesses
Columbia drivers paid 15 percent more for gas Saturday compared to just a few days before.
Gas prices ranged from $2.49 to $2.69 across the city.
The price hike started to affect some local transportation services. Economy Cab has not raised meter prices in four years. The company has not had to raise its prices yet with the recent spike, but that may change.
“We probably burn close to 150 gallons a week,” Economy Cab Owner Charles Reno said. “If it stays that way for any length of time, we have to adjust our prices somehow or another to re-coop that, which in turn affects our customers.”
The average price for gas in Missouri was $2.54 Saturday.
