Sheriff’s Association votes to add “In God We Trust” to county patrol cars
The Missouri Sheriff’s Association voted unanimously Monday to put the phrase, “In God We Trust” on patrol cars.
On Tuesday, ABC 17 News checked in with Mid-Missouri officials to see when cars here will be getting the addition.
Cole County Sheriff Greg White told ABC 17 News they have already been in contact with a local shop to put the phrase on about 30 marked patrol cars.
With the recent threat of lawsuits from an out of state group in Boone County over the removal of a monument with a so called “Jesus fish,” White said he’s not worried about setting up his department up for a legal battle.
“It’s our national motto, and it seems appropriate to have it on our vehicles.”
“I shared yesterday with my office that we would be doing it, and forwarded the information along to my commissioners and they were very supportive of the idea,” said White.
That phrase might not raise many eyebrows in Mid-Missouri, but it could likely spark debate from out of state groups.
Sheriff White said this matter has already been solved in court.
“Since the supreme court has already said it was our national motto, it seems to be that is an issue that has been resolved,” said White.
Sheriff White said taxpayers will not be paying for anything.
He is using private funds raised from the annual sheriff’s BBQ.
