Community remembering teens killed in car crash
A Mid-Missouri community is mourning the loss of three teenage girls who died in a car crash late Saturday night.
17-year-old Miriah McDaniel, 17-year-old Elizabeth Moses and 13-year-old Meggan Fowler were hit by a woman driving the wrong way on Highway 54.
All four people were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say no one was wearing a seat belt.
Miriah and Elizabeth were about to enter their senior year at Jefferson City High School. Meggan was soon to start the eighth grade at New Bloomfield Middle School.
Both schools are offering counseling support all week for the victims’ families, friends and fellow peers.
“People want to know there’s support for the kids,” said Jeremy Davidson, New Bloomfield School Principal. “We’ve lined these things up and they’re ready to go if need be. We want the kids to know we’re here to support them and the families as well.”
Davidson said Meggan was a great student, friendly and always had a smile on her face.
“Just an all around good kid,” he said. “A kid you want to see here in these doors every day, so we really appreciate her and we’re really sad she’s going to be gone.”
The school will host a candlelight vigil Wednesday night at 8 o’clock in the parking lot. Davidson said t-shirts will also be sold to help the family with funeral expenses. Donations are also being accepted online athttp://www.lifehousepcg.com.
