Emergency officials prepared for large crowds at Jefferson City fair

The Jefferson City Jaycees Fair continues Wednesday night, with another 25,000 people expected to visit.

So far there haven’t been any incidents since the fair started earlier this week.

Officials are not cutting any corners when it comes to public safety, saying they’re ready for anything.

Each day before the fairgrounds open to the public, Cole Co. deputies, EMS, and fire protection come together for a safety briefing.

In the meeting, they discuss what to do if something goes wrong.

Last year’s fair went on lockdown when a child was reported missing. Officers closed the gates and no one was allowed to leave until the child was found about 45 minutes later.

It’s these kind of protocols that safety officials plan for ahead of time.

Safety workers have eyes everywhere with cameras placed throughout the grounds. They keep tabs on everything going on for rapid response.

Even though hundreds of man hours are going into safety operations this week. We’re told most of them are being volunteered by police, fire, and EMS workers.
