Severe Threat Sunday
As a cold front dives into mid-Missouri overnight, there is a potential for thunderstorms to develop late Saturday night into Sunday morning. For Sunday, the Storm Prediction Center has placed the entirety of mid-Missouri under a “Marginal Risk” for severe thunderstorms through 7pm. However, by Sunday night and Monday, the risk for severe thunderstorms transitions into the “Slight Risk” category, meaning there will be an increased chance for scattered severe storms. The primary threat with these storms is damaging winds and large hail. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
With the passage of this frontal boundary, rain will make a comeback once again. The chance for rain is likely at the start of Sunday morning into lunch time. We should see some dry periods in the late afternoon hours, where the rain chance lessens a bit, only to shoot right back up by Sunday evening into Monday night. With our soil already saturated and rivers at there current levels, flash flooding will become a concern.
