Columbia Police searching for suspects in two home invasions

The Columbia Police Department is looking for suspects in two home invasions.

The first burglary took place on Sunday in the 300 block of Brookside Lane.

The second happened early Monday morning in the 1700 block of Kitty Hawk Drive.

In both cases, electronics were taken from the homes.

ABC 17 News spoke with Columbia Police Chief Ken Burton Tuesday morning.

Burton said there are several easy ways people can protect their belongings.

“You would be surprised how many people leave their front doors unlocked and windows open, particularly when it gets hot. And burglars take advantage of it,” said Burton.

Burton said it’s happening all over the city.

“All over the city. Nobody is exempt. Another thing we have problems with during the summer is people leaving their garages open because they’re outside and don’t think anything will happen to their property. But people will make the quick theft from the garage if they get the opportunity,” said Burton.

If you have any information into these burglaries, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 875-TIPS.
