Flood waters subside but rain still a danger to drivers

Several roads in Boone County were closed this morning due to flooding, but as the day went on some of the waters receded.

ABC17 News monitored some problems areas throughout the idea such as Creasy Springs Road, Junction ZZ, Blackfoot Road and Brown School Road.

While many of the roads had signs that warned of floods and standing water, there were no major dangers on those roads.

According to Tiger Towing, shallow water on the road can often be as dangerous to cars as flood waters.

Not only is it slick, Tiger Towing owner David Debates said the water can get inside your car and actually damage your motor.

“A lot of your air intake in your car, some of them sit real low which passes through your air filter and people think it’s kind of fun to drive through the waters that maybe might not be as deep as a flooded area,” he said. “That water gets in and it could actually get sucked up through the motors and lock a motor up.”

Tow truck operators at Tiger Towing said they have been seeing one or two water rescues a day and recommend people leave enough time to get where they are going so they don’t rush and run into dangerous problems with slick water.

“It’s probably a lot to do with people being impatient instead of turning around and backtracking,” said Terry Hartmann, a tow truck driver.
