July 20 trial set for Jefferson City child assault suspect

A July 20 jury trial has been scheduled in Cole County for a man accused of seriously assaulting a 2-year-old child in 2011.

Quinton Davon Allen, 25, is charged in Cole County with two counts of second degree assault. Allen’s pre-trial conference is set for July 15.

The alleged incident happened in November 2011 in the 800 block of Monroe Street in Jefferson City.

The Jefferson City Police Department’s probable cause statement says the child was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital on Nov. 13, 2011, for excessive vomiting and was transferred that day to University Children’s Hospital in Columbia.

The statement says the child’s injuries were “Level 3 lacerated liver, subdural hematoma, bruising on the chest and bilateral hemorrhaging in both eyes.” Doctors told Jefferson City Police investigators that the injuries had to have been caused by some type of severe trauma and shaking.

The probable cause statement indicates the child had to have a portion of his skull removed to have the subdural hematoma treated.

The statement also says that immediately after an interview with Jefferson City Police, Allen “packed up his belongings and fled back to Topeka, Kansas.” Allen, who’s from Topeka, told detectives that he did not strike the child.

Second degree assault is a class C felony in Missouri. Cole County Prosecutor Mark Richardson is handling the case. Allen is represented by public defender Andrew Sartorius.
