Two Jefferson City men killed on July 4th in Chicago
Two brothers from Jefferson City are dead after a violent holiday weekend in Chicago. WFLD reports the victims are John Hunter, 25, from the 300 block of East Ashley Street in Jefferson City, and Willie Hunter, 31, of the 1200 block of East High Street.
Police believe the men were sitting inside an SUV around 6:10 a.m. Saturday in the 8800 block of South Bishop on Chicago’s South Side, when somebody walked up to the vehicle and opened fire.
Hunter was in the driver’s seat and shot multiple times. He tried driving away, before crashing into a building in the 1600 block of West 89th.
He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. It is unclear if Willie Hunter died from injuries sustained in the wreck or the shooting. He was declared dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled Monday.
Seven other people died after a rash of shootings in Chicago over the Fourth of July weekend, including a 7 year-old boy. Over 50 have also been injured since Thursday night.
