Flash flooding, winds cause damage in Mid-Missouri

Severe storms pushed through mid-Missouri Wednesday night.

Flash flood warnings are in effect through Friday morning for Benton, Boone, Camden, Cole, Howard, Maries, Miller, Morgan, Pettis, Phelps and Pulaski Counties.

Storm reports:

*ABC 17’s Lindsey Berning went to the location where emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of Garth Ave. and Sexton Road around 8:15 PM Wednesday night for a water rescue. People on the scene told ABC 17 the intersection was taped off for three stalled cars in the standing water at the intersection. ABC 17 saw crews clearing out storm drains to recede water and also push off one vehicle to a nearby parking lot. The intersection was reopened at about 8:45 PM Wednesday night.

*ABC 17’s Trevor Beshear reports Cole County road crews are working to cleanup power lines near Broadway and Cedar Way in Jefferson City that were knocked down by a tree limb.

Walmart on Grindstone Pkwy. in Columbia was closed due to flooding and damage to skylights Wednesday nights.

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather team gathered several storm damage reports from across the area Wednesday night.

In Sedalia, power poles were blown down over Highway B, and 17 roads were completely covered in water. A radio station was flooded and had to be taken off the air due to water coming into the studio. Over 50 vehicles were stranded in the city due to flooding.

Also in Pettis County, 5″ to 6″ of flood water was moving over the roadway.

In Columbia, MoDOT was dispatched after 5″ to 6″ of water was rushing over I-70 at mile marker 130. Several Columbia roads had flash flooding early Wednesday night.

A funnel cloud was reported in south Columbia at 7:40 p.m. near Rock Bridge Elementary.

In High Point in Moniteau County, trees and power lines were downed. Tree branches and power lines were reported down in Cole Camp and in Ionia in Benton counties.

In Stover, wind damage to trees was reported.

A tornado warning was issued for Benton County, which is where large 12″ diameter trees were downed in Warsaw. The National Weather Service in Springfield reported the Benton County Sheriff’s Office observed a possible damage path through Warsaw, with several trees uprooted and mobile homes with damage. There were also water rescues ongoing before midnight with water getting into homes.
