UPDATE: Bullet strikes parked car in Columbia shooting

A bullet broke the back window of a car on Hickam Drive Monday evening, after police say people shot at each other on the street.

A news release sent from the department said a white car, traveling west on Clark Lane, shot at a car stopped on Hickam Dr. The occupants of the dark-colored vehicle on Hickam Dr. fired back, according to the news release.

Officers found shell casings on both streets, after briefly closing Clark Ln. for the investigation. A sergeant at the scene said the department received the first call for the shooting at 6:17 p.m.

One person working on nearby Hanover Blvd. said he heard several booming sounds around that time. One resident on Hickam Dr. said children often play on the street, and had the shooting happened a bit earlier or later, some may have been in the path of the bullets.

The sergeant said they did not have a description of the suspects at the time.
