UPDATE: MSHP confirms trooper-involved shooting in Fulton
The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirms the Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating a trooper-involved shooting in Fulton.
MSHP told ABC 17 News a trooper attempted to make a traffic stop on a car on eastbound I-70 in Kingdom City just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
ABC 17 News is told there were three people in the car.
Ronnie J. Lee, 24, of Fulton, refused to stop the car and a pursuit followed.
Troopers said a passenger bailed out of the car during the chase. An assisting trooper detained that passenger.
The pursuit continued on Highway 54 and ended on Dawson Street in Fulton.
According to the MSHP, Lee exited his vehicle before it came to stop. During that time, he displayed a handgun. A trooper fired several shots at Lee, hitting him once.
Lee was taken to University Hospital for treatment and was later released.
He is being held in the Callaway County Jail.
Troopers recovered a handgun that was reported to be stolen after a computer check.
Lee was arrested for possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana, felony possession of a controlled substance – cocaine, felony resisting arrest, felony unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, excessive speed, and careless and imprudent driving.
The other two passengers were taken in for questioning.
