Nordyne in Boonville stops production
Workers at a Boonville plant are out of a job. The heating and cooling manufacturer, Nordyne, closed the doors of its Boonville plant after more than 35 years.
A Nordyne administrator said the Boonville plant stopped production Friday and is closing its doors for good. Nordyne is relocating its heating and cooling system production to the country of Mexico.
The plant has been in Boonville since 1979, and over the past few years, the company has slowly laid off employees. The most recent round of layoffs happened in January- when 50 employees were let go.
“The community is going to feel this. Not only is the loss of one of the largest employers in town, it’s also the loss of families in town because some people did choose to relocate when the Nordyne announced they were closing the Boonville plant,” said Laura Wax with the Boonvile Chamber of Commerce.
Nordyne isn’t the only plant closure Boonville has suffered over the past few years. Indeeco, the heating and cooling manufacturer left Boonville in 2012 and took around 50 jobs with it.
“Boonville is still, we are still here. We are thriving. We may not have the bigger, the larger plants right now, but we have lots of small businesses and we’re able to sustain that way,” said Wax.
There’s no word yet on what will happen with the Nordyne building.
