Multiple Boone County routes impacted by flooding

Wednesday, at least 30 different roads were closed across Mid-Missouri due to flooding, includes multiple in Boone County.

Boone County crews listed 14 roads as closed. Those include Blackfoot Road, just south of Columbia city limits, the intersection of Creasy Springs Road and Obermiller Road, Zumwalt Road south of Ashland, Remie Road, Burnett School Road, Nashville Church Road, Andrew Sapp Road, Rippeto Road, New Haven Road, Ben Williams Road, Rangeline Road, Hartsburg Bottom Road, and Easley River Road. The bridge at Wren School Road and Fox Hollow Branch crossing was washed out and is closed indefinitely.

Gale Blomenkamp with the Boone County Fire Protection District said if drivers see a flooded road, they should turn around and find another route because it does not take much water to lift a car.

“It takes about four to six inches of water can float a vehicle,” Blomenkamp said. “And so, if people are unfamiliar with how much water is there, or if they have running water going across that roadway, it could have washed out the road surface underneath the surface of the water so you don’t really know how deep it is or even what’s underneath the water. So people should turn around, don’t drown. Find an alternative route.”
