Parole hearing set for man serving life in prison for pot

A parole hearing date has been set for the only man in Missouri serving a sentence of life in prison without parole.

Jeff Mizanskey has been in prison for more than 20 years for non-violent marijuana offenses.

The life without parole sentence happened through Missouri’s prior and persistent drug offender law.

After petitions with hundreds of thousands of signatures, Governor Nixon commuted Mizanskey’s sentence on May 22, opening the door for his freedom.

The 61-year-old will appear before the Board of Probation and Parole on August 6.
