Heavy rainfall expected this week

Scattered storms will be possible once again on Monday as a front continues to waver in northern Missouri. There is a slight risk for a few storms becoming severe, particularly east of HWY 63. The main threats will be damaging winds and large hail, but heavy rainfall could also cause flooding.

Storms are likely again on Tuesday and Wednesday and will be more widespread by late in the day Tuesday. Heavy rainfall is expected to become more widespread as well on Tuesday evening and into Wednesday. This could cause flash flooding, as grounds are already saturated from storms over the weekend.

2″-2.5″ of rain is expected across most of Mid-Missouri by Wednesday evening, but isolated downpours from thunderstorms could produce local amounts of 3-4 inches. This heavy rainfall is expected to cause river levels to rise to moderate flood stages again. On Sunday evening the Missouri River at Jefferson City was measured to be 24.35 ft, just under the moderate flood level of 25 ft. The peak of river levels is forecasted to be Tuesday morning at around 27 ft before receding later in the week.
