Deputy involved in Boone Co. shootout will not be charged
Callaway County prosecutor Chris Wilson announced Thursday he will not file charges against a Boone County deputy who was involved in shootout in February.
On June 3, Wilson was appointed as a special prosecutor in the case of CJ Parker, who was fatally shot by the deputy after apparently killing three people.
In a letter to Highway Patrol, Wilson said, “the evidence available to me through the reports, including video evidence, indicates that Parker was in the process of leaving the scene of the assaults/murders he had committed at Santa Anna Drive, resisted efforts of law enforcement officers to stop him on Route WW, continued to refuse to stop after spike strips had been deployed and used on his vehicle, and refused verbal commands of the officer to show his hands and fire on the officer with a handgun.”
Wilson went on to mention evidence from the dash camera video makes it clear that all of the officers were are that Parker had already shot victims on Santa Anna, and had a description of Parker and his vehicle.
Deborah Koontz and her brother, Donald Wilson, were killed, and Willie Mays was injured on Santa Anna Drive on February 28. Mays died as a result of his injuries last Thursday.
Knight said the deputy has had a long term professional relationship with the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office.
Knight noted the deputy has been employed by the Sheriff’s Department for more than 11 years, and has been involved in more than 865 cases prosecuted by the Boone Co. Prosecutor’s Office.
The deputy is also currently involved in 19 pending cases with the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office.
