Strong to severe storms possible Saturday, Sunday

Another active weekend is in store for Mid-Missouri, with storm chances early Saturday, and again on Sunday afternoon and evening.

Friday night into Saturday, a warm front will lift north and set up over far northern Missouri, bringing the possibility of thunderstorms in the morning, mainly along and north of Highway 24. Northern Mid-Missouri has a marginal risk of seeing strong to severe storms, which is the lowest severe risk category.

On Sunday, however, much of Mid-Missouri is in a slight risk for severe weather as an advancing cold front approaches from the northwest.

The atmosphere is expected to be very unstable Sunday afternoon, with high instability values and ample wind shear to support severe storms in the afternoon and evening.

Some of those storms could contain damaging winds and large hail, as well as the possibility of an isolated tornado.
