State auditor releases follow up report to Miller County audit

The Missouri state auditor has released a follow-up report to an audit that was completed in Miller County in November.

The original audit gave Miller Co. an overall performance rating of “poor,” which is the lowest rating.

The state auditor said Miller County has taken steps to improve many of the problem areas in the original audit.

The county was given 19 recommendations for evaluation.

Of the 19, 3 of them have been successfully implemented by the county, including processes to make sure the financial activities are accurate coming out of the sheriff’s office.

Twelve additional recommendations are in the process of being implemented, including those related to over-collection of property taxes and recommendations to establish inventory process for seized property.

The audit highlighted concerns with accounting practices for the county collector’s office, and was deemed not implemented by the time of the follow up.
