Strong storms, heavy rain possible Wednesday

A warm front lifted through Mid-Missouri Wednesday morning, bringing warmer temperatures and more unstable air to the region.

Multiple upper-level waves will be dropping into the area over the next few days, and the first one is moving through this afternoon.

Heavy rain and flash flooding was reported in northern and western Missouri this morning as storms have been slow to move southeast. There is the potential for flash flooding over the western and southwestern half of Mid-Missouri as this complex slowly pushes southeast, with between 1-2″ of rain possible.

Some isolated strong to severe storms on the leading edge of the complex are possible this afternoon, with damaging winds the main threat.

Where rain has already fallen and continues to fall early this afternoon, the severe potential is much lower due to rain-cooled, stabilized air over those areas.

All of Mid-Missouri is under a marginal severe risk from the Storm Prediction Center, which is the lowest of 5 categories.
