Man arrested for armed robbery at Jefferson City Subway restaurant

A man is in the Cole County Jail Thursday after apparently robbing a Jefferson City restaurant.

Jefferson City Police and Cole County deputies responded to a robbery at the Subway at 114 East High Street Thursday.

Authorities set up a perimeter around the restaurant and learned 26-year-old David Humes was still inside.

Humes went to the restaurant at 7:30 Thursday morning and sat in a booth.

He asked an employee what time management arrived.

The manager arrived at 8:00, and at 9:20, Humes showed his cell phone to an employee to have her read a text message that said, “please don’t panic.”

The employee didn’t understand what Humes was doing, and he got frustrated.

The employee told Humes to leave, and as he got to the door he pulled out a handgun from a plastic grocery bag and pointed it at the employee.

Humes began ordering both employees into the freezer and then changed his mind, ordering them to the cash register and demanded money.

Officers then entered the back side of the restaurant and arrested Humes.

A handgun was taken from the scene, and no one was injured.

Humes was arrested for 1st degree robbery, armed criminal action, felonious restraint, felon in possession of a firearm, and receiving stolen property.

Humes was also wanted for being a parole absconder, and was on parole for robbery.
