Sunrise Beach Fire Protection Chief injured in car crash
The fire chief of the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District is recovering after an ATV crashed into his car while driving the wrong way.
According to troopers, 27-year-old Adam Williams was charged with second degree assault because of the injuries caused to Chief Reilly along with Williams reportedly being impaired.
Reilly told ABC 17 News he is doing okay, but the crash could have easily been prevented.
“You know without going into many details I will just say, absolutely. Yes, it could have been prevented and I’ll just leave it at that,” said Chief Reilly.
Reilly was headed home after responding to a fire call that turned out to be nothing.
His car was struck by an ATV on route M-M.
“I’ve got a lot of glass, I was cut in a lot of places. I still have some glass in my arm and the back of my head. I’m bruised up and I’ve got a black eye,” said Reilly.
Fortunately, Reilly was able to walk away from the crash. However, you can still see shards of glass and blood in his vehicle’s seat from the crash.
His car is totaled and will have to be replaced at an estimated cost of forty thousand dollars.
“I took a pretty good shot and I’ll be honest with you the violence of that crash is something that I have no experienced since I have worked over in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Reilly.
ABC 17 did some digging and found out Adam Williams has a history of driving while impaired. Back in 2011 Williams was arrested for boating while intoxicated.
It is still unclear what substance Williams was under, but police confirmed he was under the influence.
Chief Reilly said he is the third fire chief in the Lake of the Ozark’s area in the past three months that has been injured while not being on duty.
In the state of Missouri someone can face up to 7 years in prison for second degree assault on top of a five thousand dollar fine.
