Columbia Council to make several votes Monday night

The Columbia City Council is scheduled to make votes on three major issues Monday night.

The council will vote on a bill on electric rates, a bill for a special August election to extend the capital improvement sales tax, and a bill to establish a pedestrian safety task force.

In April, Columbia voters approved Proposition 1, a $63 million bond issue for Columbia Water and Light improvements throughout the city.

Water & Light needs to increase revenue 3% in preparing for issuing the electric system bonds.

The council will vote on a bill to extend the 1/4 of 1% capital improvement sales tax. The proposed ballot calls for $99.3 million in projects.

Some of those projects include widening Forum to 4 lanes from Chapel Hill to Woodrail, improving Nifong from Providence to Forum, extending Discovery Pkwy. from Gans to New Haven, and to begin on a Municipal Services Center.
