Tracking triple-digit heat indices by the weekend, slim rain chances
TONIGHT: Mostly clear with a hazy sunset likely. Lows in the upper 60s to around 70 with patchy fog developing in river valleys and low-lying areas.
TOMORROW: Mostly sunny with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s with a heat index between 95-96.
EXTENDED: We'll likely have a bit of a hazy sunset again tonight with smoke settling over the area thanks to ongoing wildfires out west. Patchy river fog is possible through early to mid-morning as temperatures dip to about 70 with light winds. Winds shift back to the south tomorrow, tipping us to about 90 by afternoon. Heat indices will make it to the mid-upper 90s as dew points get back into the lower 70s by late afternoon. We end the week in the low 90s with a heat index around 99-100 on Friday.
Over the weekend, temperatures increase to about 94-95, but there could be a couple of showers or storms Sunday into Monday as a disturbance rides along a weak boundary to our north. The better chance of storms looks to be on Monday, and I've increased the chance of rain given the possibility of a more organized storm complex moving somewhere across the state. This could put a dent in temps to about 90 on Monday and Tuesday, with a heat index between 99-100. The worst of the heat really starts to build mid-late next week as highs get back into the mid-90s and heat indices get between 101-103. The upper pattern finally begins to flatten by the end of next week into the weekend, bringing a slight cool down and chances for showers and storms next weekend.
