Deputies prepare for summer spike in crime

As warmer weather settles in for late spring and summer, Mid-Missouri law enforcement is preparing for a summer spike in crime.

Boone Co. Sheriff’s Detective Tom O’Sullivan said summer can be a busy time for law enforcement in dealing with more crime.

Sometimes there is an increase in teens getting into trouble after school gets out.

Over the summer, school resource officers to general patrols, which helps control crime.

O’Sullivan said a root of several of the problems can be traced back to irresponsible landlords, and the sheriff’s department can’t do much at times due to the way the government is set up in Boone County.

He said there is no ticket or citation they can write up against these landlords.
