Trial delayed for man accused in deadly Columbia stabbing

The man accused in a deadly Columbia stabbing appeared in court Monday afternoon in Boone County.

Anthony Shegog had a pre-trial conference Monday afternoon.

He’s accused of stabbing a man to death behind Hickman High School last fall.

Investigators think he was jealous when he saw the victim talking to his girlfriend.

Court documents said the victim, Walter Lige, was found lying behind 801 Washington Avenue on October 6.

Columbia Police found a knife on the kitchen counter in Shegog’s apartment that was still wet from being washed. It said the water on the blade had a pink tinge to it that is consistent with blood in water.

Shegog’s trial was scheduled for May 20, but has been delayed.

The prosecutor has requested that Shegog provide samples of saliva.
