Rain and storm chances Sunday

An upper level system currently to the west of Missouri will slowly make its way eastward through the weekend and into Monday. As it does it will continue to rotate in showers and thunderstorms Saturday night through Monday morning.

Showers and thunderstorms will pick up after 9pm Saturday night and last into the overnight hours. The best chance of rain will come after midnight and end Sunday morning. There will be a lull in activity Sunday from 9am through noon with only isolated showers or a stray thunderstorm during this time. As temperatures start to warm during the afternoon though, another wave of showers and thunderstorms will move in.

If clouds clear enough on Sunday morning temperatures will be allowed to warm up more quickly to near 80 degrees. This warm up could lead to a higher risk of severe weather as more thunderstorms develop during the afternoon. Scattered thunderstorms that move in during the afternoon will last through the evening.

The severe risk will cover all of Mid-Missouri with severe weather more likely from 2pm-8pm. The main risks will be damaging winds and large hail. The system will finally move over Missouri and push to the northeast Monday. A few showers or thunderstorms will linger into Monday morning before dry conditions return for Monday afternoon.
