Gov. Nixon’s son arrested for driving while intoxicated
Gov. Jay Nixon’s youngest son was arrested early Friday morning for driving while intoxicated.
Columbia Police Department arrest records say Willson Nixon, 24, was arrested near Second Street and East Broadway just after midnight Friday morning. The arrest report said he was stopped for a red light violation.
Officers said they smelled an odor and did a field sobriety test. They then determined Nixon was impaired and arrested him.
ABC 17 reached out to the governor Saturday morning. “This matter will be addressed thorough the municipal legal process,” Gov. Nixon said. “We love our son Will very much and this is something we will be dealing with privately as a family.”
Willson Nixon was cited for possession of marijuana in 2011, but charges were later dropped for a lack of evidence.
