Crews to start work on million-dollar sewer project in Jefferson City

In the next few weeks, crews will be getting a $1 million project underway to replace storm water and sewer lines in the Woodward Lake subdivision just west of Jefferson City.

Several streets such as Angelia and Gary Lane will also be resurfaced.

“Really the driving factor is to fix the storm water issues we’re having. Dilapidated pipes and inlets, and things like that,” said Cole County Engineer Eric Landwehr.

The reason for the work could be seen Friday as crews were replacing a culvert that failed just down the street on Sharon Drive.

The work in Woodward will be a lot like that but on a much larger scale.

“In this subdivision, yes, there’s probably a pipe that is about 100 feet long and the bottom is gone. It’s rusted out and you see yards collapse. It’s not a dangerous thing, but you see it and it’s a maintenance issue for us, and there comes a time when we have to replace it,” said Landwehr.

The project is being paid for with the half cent sales tax that voters have approved every five years since 1986.

The work should wrap up by the middle of October.
