New Missouri auditor sworn in

Missouri’s new state auditor was sworn in at the State Capitol Monday afternoon.

Nicole Galloway, the former Boone County Treasurer, was sworn in at 3:00 p.m. in Jefferson City.

She’s replacing late auditor Tom Schweich, who committed suicide in February.

After being sworn in, Galloway took the podium to lay out her plan for the next few years.

She said the office will be a watchdog that holds government accountable.

She said cyber security is an issue for all Missouri families, and a focus of her office will be to ensure Missourians’ personal data is safe.

As a Democrat, Republicans ask whether Galloway can be impartial.

She said Missourians want effective and efficient government, and that’s what her office will work toward.

Galloway was the Boone Co. Treasurer from 2011 until taking the auditor position.

Kay Murray was sworn in as interim treasurer Monday. Murray has held the position before, but came out of retirement to help out.

Governor Nixon will appoint the new Boone Co. Treasurer.
