Superintendent of Macon County R-1 School District resigns

The superintendent of the Macon County R-1 School District has resigned, according to a statement released by the school board president Saturday.

Doctor Charles Stockton has been the superintendent of the district since 2012.

School Board President Donny Wyatt said in a statement Saturday Stockton and the board wish each other well and that the board will begin its search for a new superintendent.

According to the statement, Stockton was not at Thursday’s board meeting and will be on paid administrative leave for the rest of the school year.

ABC 17 News put in calls to the board president to find out more information about why Stockton resigned, but as of Saturday night, calls had not been returned.
