Professor salaries on the rise nationwide
A new report from the American Association of University Professors shows professor salaries rose faster than inflation for the first time in 5 years.
One institution in Mid-Missouri ranks at the bottom of the list for pay at Missouri 4-year colleges, while another one ranks second in the state.
The average compensation for the state’s top public university is twice what the lowest private college pays.
Total compensation at Missouri’s state schools is right in line with average compensation at other schools around the nation. Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla is the second highest in the state, and has an average of $155,400 per year.
The University of Missouri in Columbia is next in line with total average compensation of $148,900.
The average goes down drastically in Missouri when looking at smaller private institutions.
Columbia College is at the top of private colleges with a full time professor making an average of $108,500. That’s almost 1.5 times a full time professor at Westminster College in Fulton, which ranks as the lowest compensated faculty in the state.
Lincoln University in Jefferson City was also ranked in the survey; the school came in with an average of just over $83,000, the 5th lowest in Missouri.
To find out what this means for staffing and recruiting, ABC 17 reached out to the Coordinating Board for Higher Education. They said every school has the right to set salaries however they please.
