Updated severe threats for Friday- Saturday

The slight severe threat has shifted west and out of Mid-Missouri for Friday night but we continue to be in a marginal risk for severe storms. Storm are expected to develop in Kansas Friday evening ahead of an area of low pressure and spread to the east-northeast in the overnight hours. These storms will contain heavy rain and could produce 1-2″ of rain through early Saturday in areas north of I-70 with the best chance north of HWY 24. There are indications that these storms will congeal into a complex of storms as they head east-northeast overnight, affecting areas north of I-70. Strong, damaging winds are possible ahead of this line of storms. Another area of t-storms is expected to move in from southwestern Missouri and affect areas near I-44 in the late evening hours. A few of these storms could be strong with isolated strong wind gusts and hail up to 1″ in diameter. Scattered showers & storms will expand across the area in the late night hours and track across Mid-Missouri through early Saturday morning before ending.

At this time the threat of severe storms is very low through Saturday morning. We cannot rule out isolated strong or severe storms with strong winds or large hail but widespread strong or severe storms are not expected.

As we head into the early afternoon Saturday, forecast models project the area of low pressure and trailing cold front will slowly move across our southeastern counties. Showers & t-storms are expected to develop north of I-70 by noon and develop to the southeast. The air ahead of the cold front will be warm and very unstable so storms are expected to strengthen during the afternoon affecting areas along and south of HWY 54 and the eastern Ozarks.

There is a slight severe risk for areas just south of I-70 and east of HWY 63 for Saturday afternoon. Damaging wind and large hail are the primary threats with a chance of an isolated tornado.
