Boone Co. Commissioner calls for road repairs

One Mid-Missouri leader said something has to be done to fix our roads before it’s too late.

ABC 17 sat down with Boone County’s Presiding Commissioner, Dan Atwill, during our 9 a.m. newscast.

Atwill wants to raise the state’s gas tax by two cents, even though recent efforts have stalled in the Missouri Senate.

Atwill said Missouri will have the lowest fuel tax in the nation, and if lawmakers don’t make any progress, it will only make things worse in the future.

“We don’t want to have our roads deteriorate any further, we need responsible government. This is really embarrassing as a governmental problem, because we should be able to solve this problem, and I’m sad to say that we’re headed down a route that is worse than where we are now.”
