Severe storms possible late Friday

After a quiet Thursday, more active weather is possible as we push toward the end of the work week.

Moisture filtering back into the region on the back side of high pressure to our southeast could bring some scattered, light rain showers late Thursday night into early Friday.

There will likely be ample dry time on Friday afternoon before an approaching warm front begins to move into the state.

By late Friday afternoon into the evening, this warm front will begin to lift and additional showers and thunderstorms will develop along and north of this boundary.

There is a possibility some storms that do develop may become strong to severe in an unstable environment.

Large hail up to 1″ in diameter or greater, winds up to and/or in excess of 58 MPH, and an isolated tornado or two is possible for the entire Mid-Missouri area. All of our area is under a slight risk for severe weather from the Storm Prediction Center, with the greatest risk in western Missouri where there is an enhanced risk, including Pettis, Benton, and Morgan counties.

This warm front will continue to lift northeast into early Saturday morning, and the center of low pressure moves east. Depending on how quickly the associated cold front moves with this system, there could be a window for additional strong storms early Saturday afternoon, mainly in our southern counties along I-44.

As this whole system exits, we’ll dry out by early Saturday evening into Sunday, with slightly cooler high temperatures Sunday afternoon.
