COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri Department of Transportation’s project to improve the driving surface of Stadium Boulevard in Columbia has moved into its next phase this week.

A contractor has started milling and resurfacing Stadium Boulevard, between Blackfoot Road and Broadway Street, which is the final section of road to be milled down before the installation of the new driving surface.

Crews have started removing portions of the road to repave them each night. This work is requiring lane closures in the area from around 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. causing some delays.

ABC 17 spoke with construction crews Tuesday morning who wrapped up the first portion of Blackfoot Road and Broadway just before 5 a.m.

The contractor will also continue to make roadway repairs along the milled portion of Stadium Boulevard between Highway 63 to Broadway. MoDOT said the resurfacing of this section will begin in early August.

MoDOT is encouraging drivers to stay focused and obey traffic signs in the work zones, and give crews room to work.

The work is weather permitting and could be delayed.
