Three charged with felony forgery

Three Columbia residents have been arrested and charged with felony forgery after being caught cashing fake payroll checks back in October.

Court documents show Afton Conn, November Smith and Courtney Harris went into Southside Liquors on Providence with fake checks. The checks were made to look like Target and Marriott Hotel payroll checks.

The documents state that Conn and Harris were able to cash their checks, but the clerk behind the counter refused to cash Smith’s check.

Officials said Harris admitted to authorities that she new it was a counterfeit Target check, and that she had never been employed by the retailer.

Harris told officials she got the check from her boyfriend who she said forced her to cash it.
