Florida man stopped, arrested in Callaway Co. for having 70 pounds of marijuana

A Florida man was arrested in Callaway County after a traffic stop revealed about 70 pounds of marijuana and thousands of dollars in cash.

Highway Patrol troopers stopped 34-year-old Christopher Asbury of Palmetto, Florida near mile marker 149 on I-70 near Kingdom City for following another car too closely.

The trooper asked for permission to search Asbury’s SUV, but Asbury denied the request.

The patrol then brought out a K-9 unit, which resulted in a probable cause search.

About 70 pounds of marijuana were hidden in two suitcases and a duffle bag, and $8,000 cash was also found.

Asbury was arrested and taken to the Callaway County Jail for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and driving on a suspended license.

His bond was set at $25,000.

The Drug Enforcement Administration also helped with the investigation.
