In Jefferson City, voters to decide new mayor, school board race

In Cole County, voters were able to go to the polls at 6:00 a.m. for election day.

Cole County Clerk Steve Korsmeyer told ABC 17 News he expects about a 20% voter turnout Tuesday, citing a strong interest in the Jefferson City School Board race and the mayoral race.

Current Mayor Eric Struemph has served as the Capital City’s mayor for four years. Struemph announced he would not seek re-election in October, citing health reasons and to spend more time with his family.

There are six candidates on Tuesday’s ballot for Jefferson City mayor, including Leonard Steinman, current city council member Bob Scrivner, and former city council members Carrie Tergin, Edith Vogel, Roy Viessman, and Richard Groner.

Struemph last week endorsed Scrivner and Vogel for mayor.

The polls will close at 7:00 p.m. Officials said there will be four poll workers at each precinct.
