Man pleads guilty to beating another man with a hammer

A Mid-Missouri man pleaded guilty Monday to beating a man with a hammer.

Davis is charged with assault, robbery, and armed criminal action.

He plead guilty to assault and tampering with a motor vehicle. In exchange for his plea, four other counts including armed criminal action and robbery, were dismissed.

Assistant prosecutor Brouck Jacobs said he recommended 25 years in prison for the assault and another seven for the tampering because Davis is a danger to society.

“The victim suffered skull fracture and brain bleeding and we treated the case very seriously, so we want him put away for a long time,” Jacobs explained.

33-year-old Jason Davis apparently beat the man then stole his car and iPhone on December 16, 2013.

According to court documents, the victim said Davis told him that if he called police, Davis would come back and kill him.

Davis reportedly told police he was not able to keep count of how many times he hit the victim with the hammer, and attacked him to keep his phone and car.

Jacobs said the victim is doing much better and is happy with the plea deal.

But Davis was unaffected and unemotional as he was telling Judge Christine Carpenter what he did.

“He was matter of fact which, in my mind, you beat someone with a hammer, something is probably wrong with you,” Jacobs said.

The defense asked for a sentencing assessment report and a lesser sentence.

Davis will be sentenced May 11.
